Gjerkeš Estate

Somewhere in Goričko (NE Slovenia), surrounded by vineyards and farms, lies Gjerkeš Estate. A renovated traditional farmhouse now turned into an estate with a touch of modern simplicity. Don’t trust the car navigation that will take you there through small Austrian villages, corn fields, backyards and then suddenly, when crossing the green border to come back to Slovenia, you drive across the hill and a beautiful view opens up.

In the middle of nowhere, and then some miles ahead, lies the estate in an area located between two inactive volcanoes. The nature-friendly cultivation of the vineyards and the meticulous work in the cellar, gives their wines a special stamp. As they say: ”We trust our wine and let it develop without our excessive influence”.

Wine cultivation has been in the family for over 30 years now. Good 15 years ago in 2007, the estate was taken over by Leon Gjerkeš and his family. They start writing a new story with resounding successes at national and international wine evaluations. In 2011, they began the construction of a new modern wine cellar with accompanying rooms for processing and tasting rooms. In 2023, the offer on the property was enriched with 7 tourist rooms, a breakfast room and a kitchen. Being in such a nice natural environment, over 30 minutes ride from major cities, one needs to offer an overnight facility after fantastic wine tasting.

Goričko: already the name is epic. It derives from the work gorica, meaning “a small hill”. In this hilly area, when one says: “Grem v gorice” (I am going to the hills), the person can also mean: I am going to my vineyard, thus gorice = vineyards. The area is an excellent starting point for hikers, cyclists, thermal spa visitors, lovers of unspoilt nature, historical attractions and above all, foodies and wine lovers.
